About us
A French wine merchant
Grands-Crus.wine is the online shop of ITQS, a fine-wine merchant house. The same team runs Connoisseur's Wine, our export business, which ships French wines to Europe, Asia and North America. That export trade, with its customs and logistics demands, shaped the way we work: traceable bottles, controlled storage, careful shipping.
What we buy
We work mainly with Burgundy, Champagne, the Rhone, the Loire and the Jura. Elsewhere too, when a wine warrants it.
Two things govern what we buy: provenance and the condition of the bottles. Knowing where a wine comes from, whose hands it has passed through and how it has been kept matters as much as the name on the label. A bottle whose history is known beats a cheap bottle from nowhere in particular.
Where the wines rest
Our bottles are kept at Les Chais de France, beneath the hillsides of Issy-les-Moulineaux, on the edge of Paris. These are old galleries cut into the chalk, fitted with dehumidifiers and air conditioning. The temperature holds at 13 °C and humidity at around 70 %. The wines lie in racks, in darkness, away from vibration.
None of that shows on a label. It shows in the glass ten years later.
How we ship
Every order leaves in reinforced packaging built to absorb knocks and limit temperature swings. We work with carriers who specialise in wine, and with general carriers we have tested on this kind of consignment. All our shipments are insured against breakage and theft, at our expense.
Our customs status, as an authorised warehouse keeper and certified consignor, lets us issue the accompanying documents ourselves and handle the formalities for most European countries. For other destinations, the delivery request form lets you send us your plans, and we come back to you with terms and a price.
